NBH Machinery History
Founded on April 1, 1891 by Nathan Bryant Handy, NB Handy holds the distinction of being successfully owned and operated by the same family for 130 years. While our product lines have evolved to serve industry needs, our core values of excellence, including treating employees, vendors and customers like family, remain strong.
After 38 years of operation, the 65 10th Street building in Lynchburg, VA became the NB Handy Corporate Campus. The Southern Railway ran right by the building, delivering galvanized and black sheets, hoop iron, steel roofing, copper, solder, zinc, nails, wire, metals, metal ceiling, lath, conductor pipe, eave troughs, tinner’s tools and all colors of roofing slate to the warehouse.
Then, in the post WWII economic boom, a new market emerged for warm air heating and air conditioning. It was natural for NB Handy to respond to the needs of this market with the metal it could provide for duct fabrication and new innovations in HVAC Equipment.
In 1992, NB Handy again responded to the changing needs of the market by establishing a Machinery Division on Odd Fellows Road in Lynchburg, VA. This new, centrally located facility not only focused on new and used machinery sales, but opened the door to a service offering as well. Our Machinery Division now houses the largest machinery service facility on the East Coast, boasting a drive-in paint booth and full-service fabrication shop, and specializing in machinery refurbishment, rebuilds, and retrofits. Our factory-trained field service technicians are able to respond to most requests for service on our entire product line and a variety of others throughout our trading area.
Nearly 30 years after its inception, NBH Machinery has become one of the largest machinery dealers in North America that specializes in sheet metal fabrication equipment and tools.
